Christian, on the other hand, gets himself into his usual messes, but by season's end, he takes a step into uncharted territory… where no man has gone before, and only Season 6 can tell us if he made the right decision. After losing Julia in Season 4, Sean has never been able to regain his footing in any of his relationships, and is instead faced with a string of challenging women, none of whom live up to the expectations set by Julia, or the bond he has with Christian. And another, though possibly less successful, guest casting coup came through Katee Sackoff of Battlestar Galactica fame playing Teddy Lowe, as a new addition to McNamara/Troy.Īs with all seasons of Nip/Tuck, this one was not without its wacky and unusual relationships, though some were more predictable than earthshaking. The second half of the season went lighter on the guest cast, bringing show favorites to the forefront lie Liz Cruz, but found new lightness in Raj, played by Adhir Kalyan, the young and obsessive, yet endlessly humorous Indian intern. Loaded with guest stars from returning characters like Rosie O'Donnell to new initiates to the Nip/Tuck fold ( Oliver Platt, Bradley Cooper, Portia de Rossi, Lauren Hutton, Sharon Gless and newcomer AnnaLynne McCord) the first half of Season 5 fell into the all too common rut of losing main characters in the shuffle of all the guest stars. With the recent premiere of the second half of the season, the show's prognosis took a turn for the worse and the moving stories and dramatic characters we'd grown to love and hate over the four previous seasons were soon drowning in a sea of choppy storytelling, misplaced emotional beats and undeveloped characters. And after being harshly split by the Writers' Guild Strike spanning from the fall of 2007 to the early months of 2008, Nip/Tuck was forced to finish out the season this past January, nearly a year after the mid-season finale and cliffhanger. Though rife with potential in the carefully-crafted, if slow-starting, first few episodes of the season that had Sean and Christian delving into the dark depths of their new neighborhood, the slow-developing stories throughout the first half of the season had the characters treading water and gasping for breath. McNamara/Troy set out to conquer Hollywood, but instead found themselves the proverbial small fish in a big pond. Remember when… way back when… long ago in October of 2007… when we found our beloved Sean and Christian in their new offices of McNamara/Troy in a new city across the country? When after four seasons of pushing the limits of Miami's plastic surgery scene and its characters, Nip/Tuck packed up its scalpels and headed out west for Season 5.
